Osmocote Classic for Carnivorous Plants is a balanced 14-14-14 slow release pellet fertilizer.
Here is my experience with this fertilizer and Carnivorous Plants
Nepenthes- one pellet per adult pitcher one every few months gives your plants a boost. Choose older harder pitchers, it seems to destroy fresh new pitchers. I pick out the smaller pellets for smaller pitchers. Fertilize no more than one or two pitchers. Do not place any pellets in the soil.
Heliamphora- two to four pellets on top of the medium of a 4” pot seems to give your plants a boost every four to six months More for bigger pots, less for smaller pots. I haven’t tried inside the pitchers.
Cephalotus- One pellet Inside the pitchers, choose older pitcher. I pick out smaller pellets for them.
Juvenile Sarracenia- two - four pellets on top of the medium in a 4” pot. More for bigger pots
- Not for Sundews, except possibly D. Regia but I have not tried.
- Not for Pinguicula
-Not for Utricularia
Ant plants and Ant ferns- Add several pellets per pot, they really seem to benefit for it
- I use this product with care and have for many years. When used as above, I’ve never lost a plant from this fertilizer but in the odd case I have lost Nepenthes pitchers and Cephalotus pitchers faster than normal, especially new pitchers. This could be due an overdose of fertilizer, to big of a pellet (pellets vary in size). Also Pitchers naturally brown at the top when, I believe they have got enough nutrients in the trap. With fertilizing Carnivorous Plants there can always be a risk, but use with caution, use with care, and following a less is more rule, It can have huge benefits.
- Please Note that all sizes are packaged on site and ship as shown in the photos.
- Due to plant safety, this product may be shipped in a ziplock bag (Instead of a bottle) if shipped in an order that contains plants.
